Lordship Salvation
- a
nullification of the grace of God; a mockery of what Christ has done for people.
What is Lordship Salvation?
An unbiblical teaching that leads souls down the road of destruction. In the Book of Matthew chapter 7 in verses 13-14, the Bible says, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." Broad is the way that leads to destruction, and Lordship Salvation is that way.
Lordship Salvation has come up with so many "ways" to try and sneak ways into Heaven and they include.. living a holy life, avoiding wrong, surrendering their all to the Lord, obeying Him, and others I probably missed. These are wonderful works, but what does the Bible tell us about religious people who do those wonderful things, but don't trust Christ?
Well, in
Matthew 7:21-23 it says, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which
is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not
prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name
done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Those so-called wonderful works you are
trying to impress the Lord with are "works of iniquity" in the sight of God. The
Bible also tells us in the book of Isaiah that all our righteousness is as
filthy rags. No one will ever get to Heaven just because they keep all the rules
that God sets aside for them.
The Bible gives us a crystal clear plan of salvation that must be kept crystal
clear. When Lordship Salvationists come with dirt and add it to the Gospel of
Christ, it is disgusting in its worst form. People are desperate already to be
saved, and Lordship Salvationists come along and add some "secret ingredient" to
the crystal clear water of the Bible that poisons the poor lost sinner to death.
While God has the ONLY cure, Lordship Salvationists always think it won't do a
thing, so they come up with their own.
There is nothing that can come from Lordship Salvation, other than a good life.
Listen here, I'd rather a person live a sinful, wicked life and be justified by
the marvelous grace of God and go to Heaven, then for someone to live a holy,
godly life that God wants them to live, unjustified and headed to Hell. I'd
rather both, justified and holy; but when it comes to salvation, it is the Work
and Grace of God that saves, not anything that we do.
Listen, salvation is not of works. Works have no part to salvation at all -
period. If salvation were by works of any kind, then salvation is not by grace
and that grace has been destroyed. No, salvation is not by works, nor is works
what keeps your saved, nor is it what proves your salvation. No, it is Jesus
Christ that saves, and only He has the power to do so. Instead of hearing my
say-so on the matter... here is the Word of God...
"Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a
stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that
believeth shall not make haste." -Isaiah 28:16
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him
that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but
is passed from death unto life." -John 5:24
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
-John 6:47
"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son,
and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the
last day." -John 6:40
"And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could
not be justified by the law of Moses." -Acts 13:39
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
-Romans 1:16
"For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not
before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was
counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not
reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on
him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as
David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth
righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are
forgiven, and whose sins are covered." -Romans 4:2-7
"And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.
But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more
work." -Romans 11:6
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." -Romans
10:13
"What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after
righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is
of faith. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not
attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by
faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that
stumblingstone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and
rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Brethren,
my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For
I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish
their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of
God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that
believeth." -Romans 9:30-33; 10:1-10:4
"And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they
said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
-Acts 16:30-31
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not
his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him
might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth
not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God." -John 3:16-18
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not
the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." -John 3:36
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." -Ephesians 2:8-9
You have heard what God has said about salvation. Salvation is by grace alone
through faith alone in Christ alone. Call that Easy-Believism, I am going to
call it the Word of God. Call that cheap grace, I'm going to call that the Word
of God. (For those of you who are afraid of being called that, remember that
Paul was accused of this as described in Romans 3:8.) Lordship Salvation is just
the opposite. So then, you are aware that Lordship Salvation is a work of Satan.
We must be aware of those who teach it (Matt. 7:15).

Last but not least, false religions who preach another Jesus that is not the Jesus of the Bible. This includes Methodists, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Mormons, Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses, and many more.
This is a small portion of what to look out for. Sad isn't it? It sure is. The
good news is that there are still preachers who stand for the faith of the
gospel.

There are many other defenders of
the gospel, like Paul the Apostle and Peter in the Bible, but due to limited
space I've kept it at fifteen for each.
The battle did not start just recently in the 20th century, it has been going on
since the Garden of Eden. God said He would not accept Cain's works with his
hands, and He most certainly will not be the Lord over those who preach works
salvation.
Maybe you are wondering how to be saved. You know the error of Lordship
Salvation, but what is the real gospel? How can you be really saved? Salvation
is so easy...
-
Understand you are a sinner. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and
come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:10 says, "As it is written, There is
none righteous, no, not one:" Romans 3:19, "Now we know that what things soever
the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be
stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God." It is imperative to
know that you are a sinner because Jesus only died for sinners. What is a
sinner? It is a person who has broken God's laws. The law tells us how bad and
rotten we are. If there was no law, there would be no sin. But, there is and you
are all guilty of sin regardless of how good you may think you are. James 2:10
says, "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he
is guilty of all." According to this verse, we are all guilty of breaking the
law - big sin or small sin it is still sin.
Understand sin has a penalty - death in hell. Romans 6:23a says, "For the wages of sin is death..." Revelation 20:14-15 says, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Sin deserves to be punished, just as a crime deserves to be punished. You can be sorry you sinned, but that won't erase the fact you did sin and it still must be punished. You can try to beg the judge that you won't sin again, but your sins still must be punished. That punishment we deserve is death in the lake of fire. It's very fair. I hear people say, "What kind of loving God would send people to Hell?" Here is another question, "What kind of police officer would send people to jail?" A just one. If God was not just, He would let it go just like a police officer might. But God is just and sin must be punished. We must face this punishment if we do not get saved.
Jesus took it upon Himself to pay this penalty by dying on the cross for our sins. Romans 5:8-9, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus Christ was a sinless human being who was God in the flesh, and came here just to be a remedy for our sins and to pay the payment for mankind to be saved. The only thing we have to do is to accept this payment and we will be saved from the penalty of sin forever.
Salvation is so simple, people complicate it. In essence, the only things you
must understand is we are the sinners, Jesus is the Saviour. All you must do is
believe that He will save you and ask Him to do so, and He will.
But are Opponents of Lordship Salvation Antinomians?
First, let us define what an Antinomian is...
From Webster's 1828 dictionary:
ANTINOMIAN, n. One of a sect who maintain, that, under the gospel dispensation,
the law is of no use or obligation; or who hold doctrines which supersede the
necessity of good works and a virtuous life. This sect originated with John
Agricola about the year 1538.
ANTIMONITE, n. One who pays no regard to the law, or to good works.
ANTINOMIAN, a. [Gr. against, and law.] Against law; pertaining to the
Antinomians.
ANTINOMIANISM, n. The tenets of Antinomians.
From David J. Stewart of Jesus-is-Savior.com:
Are opponents of Lordship Salvation antinomians? No, absolutely not! Opponents
of the Lordship Salvation heresy are not Antinomians! The Word of God clearly
states in Romans 3:31... "Do we then make void the law through faith? God
forbid: yea, we establish the law." Also see Romans 6:15. Although the believer
in Christ is freed from the CURSE of the Law, we are nevertheless expected to
obey the COMMAND of the Law. Jesus said in John 15:14, "If ye love me, keep my
commandments." No believer has God's permission to sin. 2nd Corinthians 5:10
plainly states, "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that
every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath
done, whether it be good or bad."
There will be a separate judgment in Heaven just for believers, which proves
that a believer cannot lose salvation because of sin. If sinful believers went
to Hell, then there would not be any need for a separate judgment for believers
who sin. 1st Corinthians 3:15 tells us that some believers will escape Hell "as
by fire." In other words, they will receive no rewards in Heaven. This clearly
refutes the Charismatic heresy that salvation can be lost. If that were true,
then how could a believer, who lived so awful as to receive NO REWARDS in
Heaven, still go to Heaven?
Oh! The folly of those today who propagate the Lordship Salvation heresy. Their
accusation against Bible-believing Christians that we make void the Law is
absurd and certainly untrue. Just because a Christian goes into sin does not
mean that they have chosen Satan as their lord. How ridiculous! Did king David
make Satan his lord when he deliberately committed adultery and murder? Did
Peter make Satan his lord when he denied Christ? Such accusations are childish.
The truth is that every believer struggles with the sin-nature. As my pastor Dr.
Jack Hyles used to say... "We can walk in the Spirit at any given moment if we
so choose; but we won't always walk in the Spirit because of our sin-nature."
God has given us the ability to escape temptation (1st Corinthians 10:13); but
as sinners we won't always do that. Lordship Salvationists act like they are
without sin, but they are saturated with sins, especially the sin of hypocrisy.
