WARNING About the 700 Club!

WARNING About the 700 Club!
By David J. Stewart | January 2007

The 700 Club Refuses to Meet
4 BBB Requirements!

Please don't get ripped off by giving any money to the 700 Club! The 700 Club took in $462,597,261 in 2005, and refuses to disclose where the money went. The following is a Better business Report on the the 700 Club, and reveals that they are not being upfront about where the donations are going:

Stated Purpose: "to prepare the United States of America and the nations of the world for the coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God on Earth."

Evaluation Conclusions

Christian Broadcasting Network / 700 Club (CBN) does not meet the following 4 Standards for Charity Accountability:

Standard 4 : Compensated Board Members - Not more than one or 10% (whichever is greater) directly or indirectly compensated person(s) serving as voting member(s) of the board. Compensated members shall not serve as the board's chair or treasurer.

CBN does not meet this Standard because according to its IRS Form 990 for the organization's fiscal year ended March 31, 2004, five (or 42%) of the twelve board members received compensation that ranged from $5,000 to $294,071.

Standard 12 : Detailed Functional Breakdown of Expenses - Include in the financial statements a breakdown of expenses (e.g., salaries, travel, postage, etc.) that shows what portion of these expenses was allocated to program, fund raising, and administrative activities. If the charity has more than one major program category, the schedule should provide a breakdown for each category.

CBN does not meet this Standard because its combined audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2005, do not contain a detailed schedule of expenses by natural classification (e.g., salaries, employee benefits, occupancy, postage, etc.) for each of its major programs, fund raising, and administrative activities.

Standard 16 : Annual Report - Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

CBN does not meet this Standard because CBN has not responded to a request from the Alliance for a copy of a current annual report.

Standard 17 : Web Site Disclosures - Include on any charity websites that solicit contributions, the same information that is recommended for annual reports, as well as the mailing address of the charity and electronic access to its most recent IRS Form 990.

CBN does not meet this Standard because its website, www.cbn.com, does not include all of the recommended information for those charity websites that solicit contributions. Specifically, it does not include a roster of the members on the CBN board of directors, and does not provide electronic access to the most recent IRS Form 990.

In addition, the BBB Wise Giving Alliance requested but did not receive complete information on CBN's governance and oversight, effectiveness measures, finances, donor privacy policies, and fundraising disclosures and is unable to verify compliance with the following 10 Standards for Charity Accountability: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 14, 15, 18, 19, and 20.

The 700 Club are Wolves in Sheep's Clothing!

"And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not." -2nd Peter 2:3

God hates the 700 Club, because they're exploiting Christianity to make money (and lots of it). I was recently watching the 700 Club. I became angry and wanted to go vomit as I watched their marketing scam, and how they deceive so many people. What they do is show some poor child in a poor country, that they helped, and I'm sure they did. But how much of that $462,597,261 goes into their POCKETS? Why the refusal to disclose employee benefits, compensations, and salaries? I think the reason is very obvious. Why are people so dumb to give money to these shysters? It's because people don't do their homework, and become emotionally caught up in seeing poor children suffering. It's a tactic that many money-hungry "ministries" are using today. To no surprise, James Robison (Life for Today) also refuses to tell the BBB where the money is going.

The 700 Club shows its viewers a person who was at the brink of bankruptcy, but gave their last $20 to the 700 Club, and all of a sudden they received a $100,000 a year job, and bought a brand new big house, and oh life is so great now! What the 700 Club is doing is exact what 2nd Peter 2:3 warns against... "through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you..." The 700 Club appeals through COVETOUSNESS to the greed of it's listeners. In other words, give to get! Of course, they also show you photos of the new house you're going to get, and that wonderful job--all guaranteed if you'll just send them YOUR MONEY. What a bunch of charlatans!

The 700 Club would lead people to believe that they can fornicate, practice homosexuality, murder their children through abortion, be an idolater, live horribly in sin, and yet be guaranteed financial gain if they'll just send in that donation. Folks, this is deception in the worst form. Thank God for the last part of 2nd Peter 2:3, "...whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not." Oh listen friend, their day of judgment is coming. Jesus said that men will give account for EVERY idle word spoken in the day of judgment (Matthew 12:36). You can rest assure that these greedy "ministries" that keep back large portions of the donations for themselves will give account for EVERY PENNY RECEIVED. Romans 14:12 states that each individual will GIVE ACCOUNT to God on judgment day.

No doubt, the 700 Club spends millions to help the poor; but, how many millions are being spent on themselves as well? If this is not the case, then why the refusal to disclose where the money is going? I'll remove any doubt in your mind with an investigative report by British journalist Greg Palast. Also, please read, The 700 Club EXPOSED! The fact is that Pat Robertson's personal worth is estimated at well over $200,000,000. This is where much you're money is going.

Please don't give any money to this woeful group of clairvoyant con-artists...

In Jesus' name,

David J. Stewart
